Fonko is always keen to help homeowners save on costs, so we thought we’d discuss potential rebates. For example, the EECA grants up to 80% of eligible homeowners’ costs under the Warmer Kiwi Homes scheme.
Introduction to the Warmer Kiwi Homes Scheme
The EECA’s Warmer Kiwi Homes Scheme was established to enhance home comfort, health, and energy efficiency throughout New Zealand. Studies show that Kiwi homes are either too cold or too hot, leading to various health issues, especially respiratory conditions. To improve health outcomes, the scheme covers up to 80% of the cost for approved heaters, including energy-efficient heat pumps, for eligible clients in New Zealand.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
The eligibility criteria for this scheme have been changed to include more people. In August 2023, the government expanded the requirements for insulation grants, meaning they’re available to around 58,000 more homeowners, and you may be eligible for 80-90% off the cost. This is excellent news for you; it means you are more likely to be accepted. If you own and live in a house built before 2008, and live in a lower-income area or have a Community Services Card, you may be eligible for insulation, heating, or both. The link we provided above will run you through the eligibility criteria and if you meet them, we encourage you to apply immediately. There is high demand for heat pump grants and rebates in some areas, so there may be a lengthy wait of some months before service providers are available. So, don’t delay!
The application process is relatively straightforward. The first step is to answer the eligibility questions for heating or insulation grants – or both. With the criteria being considerably expanded in recent times, it’s worth taking the time to answer the questions and begin creating a more comfortable and healthier environment for you and your family.
Fonko’s Commitment to Energy Efficiency
We’ve always been dedicated to providing energy-efficient products and services. In the case of residential properties, this means supplying and installing heat pumps that make homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter. This is especially important as improved year-round conditions within a home can lead to improved health outcomes.
Our heat pump installations align with the overall objective of the Warmer Kiwi Homes Scheme to improve energy efficiency in residential spaces. We can help you make the most of the rebate while enhancing your home’s energy efficiency. We sell an extensive range of heat pumps from world-leading manufacturers like Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Daikin and Hitachi. Many of these products are highly affordable, and it’s widely accepted that heat pumps are the most cost-effective way to heat a home. The supreme efficiency of our products means the running costs remain low, and through proper installation and regular maintenance, the average heat pump will provide many years of service.
Tips for Maximising Rebates and Embracing Energy Efficiency
To maximise your savings through the Warmer Kiwi Homes Scheme, we have a few tips on using energy-efficient practices in conjunction with our residential heat pump installations. They include:
– Use the timer to warm the room just before you get home, and switch off when you don’t need it.
– Set the thermostat between 19ºC and 21ºC – this keeps your home warm and dry while saving power.
– Set the fan to ‘auto’ mode, letting the pump optimise its fan speed.
– If you want to heat a room up quickly, set the fan to ‘high’ as this also has great efficiency.
– Only set the fan to ‘low’ if you really need it to be quiet – this will reduce the efficiency of the unit and increase your power bill.
– Clean the removable filter with a vacuum cleaner or warm water every couple of months. It’s easy and stops the filter from getting clogged, which prevents the air from flowing. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when cleaning your heat pump and leave more complex maintenance to us.
